Psychobiology Trauma Therapy
What is Psychobiology Trauma Therapy?

Psychobiology (Peak States) Trauma Therapy offers unique and powerful techniques designed to heal the very roots of trauma and other persistent challenges. These cutting-edge methods have been developed, tried, and tested by a dedicated research team at the Institute for the Study of Peak States. This team includes founder Dr. Grant McFetridge (Canada), research director Dr. Kirsten Lykkegaard (Denmark), and medical director Dr. Mary Pellicer (USA), who continuously research and refine new approaches to healing.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, our methods often work with your body's sensations (similar to somatic therapy) and address issues originating from pre-conscious or early childhood experiences and even ancestral experiences. These are the deeply ingrained patterns and feelings formed before you could consciously remember them. We use gentle techniques, sometimes involving a guided "regression" (a gentle journey back in memory, like in Whole-hearted Healing®), to access these very early imprints. This focus on original causes can provide profound insights into why certain difficulties feel so stubborn, or why you might struggle with a challenge or belief without understanding its origin.

A key aspect of Peak States Therapy involves gently guiding you to become aware of subtle shifts and sensations within your own body. These physical feelings act as direct pathways to the underlying emotional, mental, and energetic imprints that might be contributing to your current struggles. By carefully noticing these internal cues, you can begin to access and resolve deeply held patterns. While this might sound a bit abstract, it becomes clear once you experience it. Perhaps this example will help:

Example: Imagine you have a fear of public speaking. A Psychobiology Therapy session would explore the legitimate fears you have, your beliefs about the situation, and the emotions that arise. Crucially, we'd also focus on the physical sensations you might feel: a racing heart, sweaty palms, a lump in your throat, butterflies in your stomach, a sense of heaviness, or the impulse to fight, flee, or freeze. All these sensations are vital cues and clues, each with an origin. By holding a supportive space for these feelings and applying specific PsychobiologyTherapy techniques, we work towards healing, releasing, and overcoming the root cause of the issue.

The core of healing in Psychobiology Therapy is about facilitating positive shifts in your internal state. Through specific techniques and guided attention, the therapy aims to help you move from states of distress, anxiety, or pain into states characterized by greater ease, well-being, and inner peace. This isn't about simply managing symptoms; it's about fostering fundamental, lasting changes at a deeper level.
As practitioners of Psychobiology Trauma Therapy, we (Ayla and Andre) have undertaken specific and in-depth training in these specialized techniques, ensuring a skillful, sensitive, and effective approach.
What to Expect in a Session:

A typical Psychobiology Therapy session often follows these steps:

-
Clarifying the Issue: We will work with you to clearly define the specific issue you want to address and the measurable outcome you hope to achieve by the end of the session.
-
Essential Skills: We will share fundamental awareness skills you'll need to use during the session, such as how to gently tap on your body to engage with emotions, or how to find your personal "centre of awareness."
-
The Healing Process: We will guide you through various processes that involve paying close attention to and being present with your emotions, body's sensations, and internal states. While the specifics will vary based on your individual needs, the emphasis is generally less on detailed verbal recounting of past events and more on being fully aware of and present with your internal experience in the moment.
Pay for Results:

This therapy is provided on a "Pay for Results" model. This means that at the beginning of the session, once we clarify the issue together, we will also agree on a realistic, measurable outcome you are seeking. This outcome will serve as our goal for the session, determining its success. If this agreed-upon outcome is attained, the session fee is payable. If the outcome is not attained, we will work together for an additional session to achieve it at no extra cost for that follow-up session. A "pay for results" contract will be provided which will give you further clarity on this.
